How you develop a fulfilling life is very personal. Many of you know that meditation is a practice I not only do daily, but that I insist my clients develop if they want to create a life they love.
In today’s blog, I felt compelled to review what I think are some of the best benefits of a meditation practice. My intention is to inspire you so that you might wake up to a simple practice that can affect you on so many levels – mind, body and soul – and get you feeling on top of the world in no time!
Benefit #1: A deeper sense of self-awareness and a connection to your unique purpose.
You have a unique set of strengths that makes you perfect for a specific purpose: whether it’s to serve the less fortunate, invent an idea or device that changes the world, or even just to make people smile. When you meditate, you gain a deeper understanding of what this purpose is, and what you must do to achieve it. No more feeling lost, stuck or unfulfilled.
Benefit #2: Deep relaxation that leaves you feeling wonderful.
Studies show that meditation relaxes your muscles and organs, and de-clutters your mind. The result is total mind and body rejuvenation, and near-immunity to the stress and pressure of everyday life.
Benefit #3: Increased inspiration and creativity that help you solve challenges and excel at what you do.
People who meditate experience more opportunities and possibilities where creative ideas and brilliant solutions seem to appear out of nowhere. Richard Bach, the author of the iconic book Jonathan Livingston Seagull, used meditation for the inspiration to finish his masterpiece!
Benefit #4: A deeper connection with the people around you.
Meditation helps you strengthen your connection with the people around you, and helps you empathize with them. I often encourage my clients to do meditation before addressing a troubled teenager, difficult boss, or an intense negotiation.
From a study done in 2009, it was reported that meditation rewires the brain for better relationship by encouraging “tuned-in” conversations, emotional resiliency and enhanced intuition. When you develop a better understanding of people’s feelings and emotions, you develop stronger bonds in your relationships.
Benefit #5: Better Sex!
Couples who meditate claim it helps them overcome their sexual inhibitions, and connect on both a physical and spiritual level. A recent study found improvements in desire, pleasure, confidence, performance, and satisfaction after 12 weeks of daily meditation practice.
Benefit #6: A magnetic attraction to wealth and success
Companies like Apple, Google and Mindvalley have known this for years: sitting down to meditate every day can improve the bottom line. The improvement comes from enhanced creativity and problem solving, laser-sharp focus and the ability to see opportunities within the unknown.
These are just some of the highlights of this age-old practice. As I have worked with so many people over the years, I have noticed that the clients who meditate gain a deeper and more effective relationship with their mind which is key in developing the understanding of the Self – who you are, why you do what you do, and how to feel fulfilled. Their view on life tends to be more positive, they feel more courageous to step into the unknown, and their relationships are deeper and more fulfilling.
For those of you who are meditating, keep on! If you are experiencing more benefits than the ones I have mentioned, please feel free to share in the comment section below. I know others who are hesitant to meditate are often inspired when they connect with your experiences.
